New Delhi, August 15 : Rahul Gandhi became first LoP in a decade to attend Independence Day celebrations at Red Fort.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, attended the Independence Day celebrations at New Delhi’s Red Fort on Thursday, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation. This was the first time that a Leader of the Opposition attended the Independence Day celebrations, as the post had previously remained vacant.
No one held the post of Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha from 2014 to 2024, as none of the opposition parties had the required number of MPs. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was appointed Leader of the Opposition on June 25, after Congress improved its tally of MPs in the Lok Sabha elections.
