Arunachal: Speaker denies rumours on APFRA Act ahead of Budget Session

Itanagar : Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Tesam Pongte has dismissed speculations regarding any discussion or resolution on the Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act (APFRA), 1978, in the upcoming Budget Session of the Assembly.
The fourth session of the Eighth Legislative Assembly is set to convene from March 6 to March 12. Addressing the media ahead of the session, Speaker Pongte clarified that the APFRA Act was passed in 1978 during the NEFA era and would not be brought back for discussion in the House.

“This is the first session of the new year, and as per tradition, the Governor will deliver the inaugural address, followed by an obituary reference for deceased former MLAs. Subsequently, bills will be introduced, and members will present private resolutions,” Pongte explained.

Emphasizing the importance of the Budget Session, he stated that it is crucial for approving government expenditures, including salaries and developmental projects. He urged for its smooth and uninterrupted conduct, dismissing any misinformation linking APFRA to the session’s agenda.
