New Delhi: The Congress on Saturday appointed Pramod Tiwari as the deputy leader of the party in the Rajya Sabha and Rajni Patil as its whip in the Upper House.
Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh took to Twitter to announce these appointments.
Three-time Rajya Sabha member and former Uttar Pradesh minister, Pramod Tiwari was appointed to fill the vacancy following the retirement of Anand Sharma, who held the post till 2022.
A 3-time senior member of the Rajya Sabha, Tiwari was elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha in the 2013 bye-election to the seat that fell vacant due to the disqualification of incumbent member Rashid Masood.
Two-time MP Patil, who is currently under suspension from the Rajya Sabha for the entire budget session for unruly behaviour, will assume the role of Congress whip in the Upper House, which fell vacant after the demise of Rajiv Satav in May. 2021.
Rajni was earlier elected to the Lok Sabha from Beed in the 11th Lok Sabha. She has also represented India at the 49th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
After the announcement of the appointments, Ramesh said that a letter in this regard has been sent to the Rajya Sabha Chairman.
