Delhi Assembly panel summons chief secretary again – this time, for inaction on 3 reports

New Delhi: Delhi Assembly’s petition committee has summoned Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar again; This time, for non-submission of Action Taken Reports (ATRs) in respect of issues such as the condition of OPD counters in government hospitals and the status of senior citizens’ homes and mohalla clinics.

According to a communication sent by the assembly, Kumar was directed to take “appropriate action” on the recommendations by the committee within 30 days of adopting the three interim reports, which were related to “matters of public importance” and directly “affecting used to “health and welfare of the citizens of Delhi”.
In three reports, the committee had examined the alleged abrupt termination of services of data entry operators at OPD counters in government hospitals; discontinuation of old age pension; and non-availability of medicines and diagnostic tests along with salary issues to the staff and doctors of mohalla clinics.

The assembly in its communication said, “…the committee expresses its displeasure at the lack of seriousness shown by you on such issues which have caused great distress to the public.”

It also said that reminders were also issued to them in this regard on March 14 and May 16, but no response has been given till date. It further said that neither he nor any of his representatives had presented themselves at a scheduled hearing on June 7 with the exemption sought on their behalf to stay out of the city.

The Assembly has sought an action taken report on the recommendations of the committee and the current status of the investigation conducted, which is to be submitted by his office on or before June 14.

It also asked the CS to appear before the committee on the next date of meeting, which will be informed to him in due course.
