Haryana poised to play an important role in $5 trillion economy: Governor

Chandigarh: Highlighting the Haryana government’s motto of maximum governance with minimum government, Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya said that several initiatives including auto appeal system, DBT facility and e-Kharid etc. have curbed malpractices and the state has Quality services are assured.

In his address on the opening day of the budget session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha, the Governor said that the State was poised to play a significant role in the national effort to make India a $5 trillion economy.

Stating that the state has revamped and simplified the process of making ration cards, the governor said that the government had recently announced reservation in promotion for scheduled caste employees in a definite and time-bound manner.

He said that Haryana, with about 2 percent of the country’s total population, contributed about 6 percent of the country’s total GST collection and its per capita GST collection was the highest among the country’s top collecting states.

Stating that the session assumed greater significance as it was in the 75th year of Independence and the first session to be held in the “Amrit Kaal”, the Governor highlighted the achievements of the State in various fields.

Industrial and commercial townships in an area of about 3,300 acres near Kharkhoda (Sonipat), and Industrial Model Township (IMT) in Sohna in an area of about 1,400 acres were found in the address. “Maruti Suzuki India Ltd is setting up a project with an investment of Rs 18,000 crore and Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd is setting up a project at IMT Kharkhoda with an investment of Rs 1,466 crore,” Dattatreya said.

He said the combined budget of agriculture and horticulture was to more than quadruple from 2014 to 2022 and with only 1.54 per cent of India’s area, the state was the second largest contributor of food grains to the central pool.

The Governor said that the Integrated Beekeeping Development Center (IBDC), a honey quality laboratory at Kurukshetra, a new Center of Excellence (CoE) on post-harvest management at Panchkula to facilitate testing and export of honey, two more CoEs – A Nutrients Research Center is being set up in Bhiwani – one for onions in Pinangwan, Nuh and another for flowers in Munimpur, Jhajjar.

The governor said that the government has increased the State Advised Price (SAP) of sugarcane by Rs 10 per quintal for the current crushing season 2022-23 as compared to last year. He said that the government has effectively tackled lumpy skin disease and no new case has been reported after November 2022.

Under the Enterprise Promotion Policy, out of 495 MoUs signed during the tenure of the present government, 188 were implemented or under implementation with an investment valuation of Rs 26,002 crore.

He mentioned distribution of pills, setting up of laboratories to enhance critical thinking and 21st century skills, provision of career counselling, free transport for girl students and provision of sanitary napkins.

Dattatreya said that in order to enhance the employability of technical education students, the government had set up Centers of Excellence (CoEs) in four government polytechnics.

Haryana Sports University was established at Rai, Sonipat during the tenure of the present government. Besides this, the Motilal Nehru School of Sports, Rai, Sonipat was brought under the administration of the university, the governor said, describing Haryana as a sports superpower.

He said that 1,821 Agniveers were recruited from Haryana during the Agniveer recruitment rallies at Hisar, Ambala, Charkhi Dadri and Rohtak.

The governor said that with a view to contribute more officers and men to the armed forces, the government would set up two Armed Forces Preparatory Institutes at a cost of Rs 20 crore.

Referring to President’s Colors for Haryana Police, he said that a Commissionerate has been notified in Sonepat and 21 Cyber Police Stations have been set up.
