Hate speech cases against 107 MPs, MLAs: Electoral rights body

New Delhi: According to electoral rights organization Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), there are hate speech cases registered against at least 107 Members of Parliament (MPs) and Legislative Assembly Members (MLAs) in India.

This information was obtained from self-sworn affidavits submitted by the MPs before contesting their last elections. The data was analyzed by ADR and National Election Watch (NEW).

The analysis further revealed that in the last five years, 480 candidates with declared cases of hate speech have contested elections for state assemblies, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Of the MPs, 33 have declared hate speech cases against them. These include seven from Uttar Pradesh, four from Tamil Nadu, three each from Bihar, Karnataka and Telangana, two each from Assam, Gujarat, Maharashtra and West Bengal and one each from Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Odisha and Punjab. , ADR said.

According to ADR, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has the highest number of 22 MPs with hate speech cases, followed by two from Congress and one each from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), AIMIM, AIUDF, DMK, MDMK. Is an MP. , PMK, Shiv Sena and VCK along with one independent MP.

Meanwhile, a total of 74 MLAs have declared hate speech cases against them. The data includes nine each from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, six each from Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Telangana, five each from Assam and Tamil Nadu, four each from Delhi, Gujarat and West Bengal, three each from Jharkhand and Uttarakhand, two -Two included. One each from Karnataka, Punjab, Rajasthan and Tripura, and Madhya Pradesh and Odisha.

The MLAs facing hate speech cases include 20 from BJP, 13 from Congress, six from AAP, five each from SP and YSRCP, four each from DMK and RJD, three each from AITC and SHS, two MLAs each. AIUDF, and one each from AIMIM, CPI(M), NCP, Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party, TDP, Tipra Motha Party and TRS, along with two independent MLAs.
