IN DEMOCRATIC JOURNEY OF 75 YEARS, INDIA’S DAUGHTERS HAVE EMERGED AS BIGGEST STRENGTH OF NATION: LOK SABHA SPEAKER

Jaipur 12 April 2023: Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla addressed the 10th Convocation ceremony of IIS University today. On this occasion, Shri Birla extended his best wishes to all the graduating students.

Appreciating the founders of IIS University, Shri Birla observed that they have successfully established a prestigious educational institution for women’s education which is dedicated towards providing good education and values for young women. He lauded the fact that the students, who have graduated from the this University in the past, have made remarkable advances in many areas of nation building, which have not only brought laurels to the institute but have also benefited society at large.

Describing India’s glorious history and traditions as a source of inspiration, Shri Birla recalled that Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Savitri Bai Phule made important contributions towards women’s education, self-reliance and empowerment. He added that those efforts continue to bear fruits for the nation till date. Referring to former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Shri Birla felt that Dr. Kalam’s dedication, hard work and contribution are inspirational for the youth. He described the efforts of IIS University as a meaningful step in the right direction.

In the context of the 75-year journey of Indian democracy, Shri Birla observed that the nation has many achievements to its name during this period. He mentioned that the Constitution of India gives many rights to citizens including equality, education, voting, personal and religious freedom. Shri Birla emphasized that democracy is the strength of our diversity. Referring to India’s constitutional journey, Shri Birla said that in many advanced countries around the world, women achieved the right to vote much later, but the Constitution of India gave this right to women from the start. Shri Birla credited the foresight and understanding of our Constitution makers for this remarkable achievement.

Referring to the importance of moral values in society, Shri Birla recalled that there has been a practice of Devi worship in India since time immemorial. Expressing the view that women make a huge contribution in keeping the family, society and the entire nation together, he said that in this journey of 75 years as an independent nation, India’s daughters and women have emerged as the biggest strength of the nation. Lauding the contribution of women from the freedom struggle to the towering achievements of women in New India, Shri Birla opined that in today’s changing scenario Indian women are providing leadership in every field. He added that there is no area where women are not leading from the front. Expressing joy, Shri Birla said that today women have reached the pinnacle in the political field, where women today occupy many high-ranking positions including the current President of India and the Union Finance Minister. He added that today’s women are making remarkable contribution across every field, like technology, administration, security, business, innovation, research etc. Referring to the orientation programs for officer trainees of Central Services organized by the Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE), Shri Birla informed that a growing number of women officers who are part of these services is a very good sign, and for which the entire nation is proud.

Describing women’s education as the strongest path for empowerment, Shri Birla said that the presence of women in every field is an important pillar of nation building. He told the students that there are limitless possibilities and opportunities in changing India. He expressed hope that during the Amrit Kaal, the education, values and ideas of India’s daughters will be useful for the progress of the nation, based on which India will lead the world.
