Kigali, Rwanda; 14th October: An Indian Parliamentary Delegation led by Shri Harivansh, Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha is presently attending the 145th IPU Assembly being held in Kigali, Rwanda. On 13 October 2022, Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha, attended the Session of the Assembly on the Emergency Item. During the debate, Pakistan had made some objectionable statements regarding Kashmir in the Assembly which was appropriately rebutted by Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha exercising the Right of Reply.
Smt. Aparajita Sarangi, MP participated in the parity debate on the topic “Rejuvenating Parliaments; Why younger and gender sensitive are more effective and efficient institutions”. Dr. Sasmit Patra, MP participated in the Panel Discussion organized by the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security on the theme “The Impact of War and atrocity on civilian population”. Smt. Aparajita Sarangi, MP also participated in the discussion organized by the above said Committee on the theme “War and Climate Change as triggers of Global Food Insecurity”. Shri Vishnu Dayal Ram, MP participated in the workshop on Climate Change.
Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha and other members of the delegation also held a sideline bilateral meeting with the Parliamentary Delegation of Zambia. Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha during the General Debate of the Assembly on the topic “Gender Equality and Gender Responsive Parliaments as drivers of change for a more resilient and peaceful world” addressed the distinguished Speakers of Parliament and Parliamentarians present.
