New Delhi; 10 October: A six member Indian Parliamentary Delegation (IPD) led by Shri Harivansh, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha will attend the 145th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to be held in Kigali, Rwanda from 11to 15 October 2022.
The Delegation comprises Shri Vishnu Dayal Ram, MP, Lok Sabha; Km. Diya Kumari, MP, Lok Sabha; Dr. Sasmit Patra, MP, Rajya Sabha, Ms. Aparajita Sarangi, MP, Lok Sabha and Shri Kartikeya Sharma, MP, Rajya Sabha.
Shri P.C. Mody, Secretary General, Rajya Sabha will also be participating in the aforementioned Assembly.
Shri L.V. Ramana, Director, Lok Sabha Secretariat is the Secretary to the Delegation.
During the above Assembly, a General Debate will be held on the theme “Gender Equality and gender-sensitive Parliaments as drivers of change for a more resilient and peaceful world”. The four IPU Standing Committees with separate agendas will be meeting concurrently. The Forum of Women Parliamentarians, Forum of Young Parliamentarians and the Committee to Promote Respect for International Humanitarian Law will also hold their sittings. The members of the IPD will participate in the meetings of these IPU bodies.
Secretary General, Rajya Sabha will attend the Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments (ASGP) meeting.
The Indian Delegation will also attend the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) Coordinating Meeting on 11 October 2022.
During the Assembly the resolution of the Third Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights will be adopted. At the end of the Assembly, a declaration on the theme of the General Debate of the Assembly will be adopted.
