Kejriwal to move confidence motion in Delhi Assembly today

New Delhi: In the backdrop of Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) allegations that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was trying to topple the party’s government in Delhi, a “Motion of Confidence” will be moved by the government in the Delhi Assembly to prove whether Legislators have joined the opposition.

Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal, during his speech in the Assembly on Friday, said he will bring a “confidence motion” in the House to prove before the residents of Delhi that “the BJP has failed to buy any AAP MLA”. has been’. Delhi. The BJP rubbished AAP’s claims, saying the ruling party in Delhi was “playing drama” to divert attention instead of answering questions on the excise policy, which is being probed by the CBI.

“It is being said that they (BJP) broke several MLAs. I got calls, people asked me if everything was fine. I want to move a confidence motion in the House to show people that not a single one went, that BJP’s Operation Lotus here became ‘Operation Mudde’,” Kejriwal said in his speech in the House on Friday.

Former Lok Sabha Secretary General PDT Acharya on Friday said that usually a ‘no-confidence’ motion is moved in the House by the opposition when the ruling party has lost majority in the House. But, the ruling party can also move a confidence motion in the House, he said. “The government can bring a confidence motion in the house at any time. Normally, when the majority of the ruling party in the House is doubtful, a no-confidence motion is brought. Since AAP has 62 members out of the total 70 members in the house, it will easily establish its majority.

According to the business list released by the Assembly Secretariat, “Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will move the following motion: This House expresses its confidence in the Council of Ministers.”

The meeting of the special session of the Vidhan Sabha was extended for a day on Friday after the Chief Minister proposed to bring a confidence motion. According to the business bulletin issued by the Assembly, “Keeping in mind the spirit of the House, it was decided to extend the sitting of the House and move the resolution on Monday, 29 August 2022.”

The session will start at 11 am on Monday.

Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said BJP MLAs are ready to accept Sisodia’s resignation over the “excise scam”. We will question the government’s silence on the thousands of crore excise scam. CM Arvind Kejriwal and AAP leaders have been making baseless claims that BJP is trying to topple their government. This is just a diversionary tactic to divert attention from the excise scam,” Bidhuri said. The BJP leader also said that the BJP MLAs will raise the issue of “corruption” in the construction of new classrooms in government schools.

A Delhi government spokesperson did not comment on Bidhuri’s allegations.
