New Delhi: 25 March -The disqualification of Lakshadweep MP P.P. Mohammed Faizal in January after his conviction by a local court for attempt to murder almost mirrors the speed with which Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was disqualified on Friday.
Curiously though, Mr. Faizal, who fought a legal battle to get himself reinstated as an MP, has not yet been allowed to attend Lok Sabha.
While Mr. Faizal told that this was a deliberate attempt to keep him out of House proceedings, sources in the Lok Sabha Secretariat said that this being probably the only case of this nature, legal opinion is being sought on how to go about allowing him back into the House.
So far, there has been no formal notification from the Lok Sabha Secretariat allowing him to attend House proceedings.
“They are yet to officially revoke my disqualification and as a result of this, my constituency mobile number is still disconnected and my details are not reflected in the Lok Sabha website,” Mr. Faizal said.
The MP who was sent a notice to vacate his official residence just a day after the disqualification hasn’t yet received any notification rescinding that too.
“Me and leaders of my party have met the Speaker many times and he has only assured us that things are being set in motion,” Mr. Faizal said.
Both Mr. Faizal and the NCP leader in Lok Sabha Supriya Sule had written to the Lok Sabha Speaker at least a month back seeking that his disqualification be revoked officially.“I wish the haste with which they sent the disqualification notice had matched the speed of revoking it too,” the MP added.
