New Delhi; 9 August : A 10 Member Delegation led by Hon. Ms. Michelle Lujan Grisham. Governor of the State of New Mexico, USA ,called on Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla in Parliament House, today.
Welcoming and congratulating Ms. Grisham on being the first Democrat Hispanic woman elected as Governor in the United State, Shri Birla commended her for her work in advancing early and higher education, ensuring food security for children, and generating employment opportunities. “Your efforts to eliminate unemployment in New Mexico are truly remarkable and reflect your progressive vision,” the Speaker observed.
Highlighting the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in areas of clean energy and environment protection, Shri Birla noted that Shri Modi’s call to live our lives in synergy and harmony with nature would lead the humanity on the path of sustainable development. He also highlighted India’s leadership in environmental initiatives, referencing the International Solar Alliance, Green Hydrogen Mission, and International Biofuel Alliance as key examples of the nation’s dedication to combating climate change. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2070, emphasizing the nation’s resolve in tackling this critical global challenge.
Noting that educational institutions in New Mexico have established direct connections with their counterparts in India, Shri Birla expressed optimism that these links would foster greater educational cooperation and facilitate mutual student exchanges between the two regions.
Governor, Ms. Grisham expressed her satisfaction with the visit and thanked Shri Birla for the hospitality extended to them. She also shared her thoughts on educational collaboration, cyber security, renewable energy, use of hydrogen as a bridge technology etc.
