New Delhi: An Indian Parliamentary Delegation (IPD) led by Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla will be visiting Jakarta, Indonesia from 5-7 October 2022 to attend the Eighth G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (P20).
The Delegation will also comprise of Shri Harivansh, Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha, Shri Utpal Kumar Singh, Secretary General, Lok Sabha and Shri P.C. Mody, Secretary General, Rajya Sabha. Dr. Ajay Kumar, Joint Secretary, Lok Sabha Secretariat is the Secretary to the Delegation.
The overall theme of the P20 is “Stronger Parliament for Sustainable Recovery”. The delegates will deliberate on four sub-themes under the broad ambit of the overall theme. A Joint Statement will be adopted at the end of the Summit.
Lok Sabha Speaker will address the distinguished gathering as Keynote Speaker during the Session III on the theme “Effective Parliament, Vibrant Democracy”. He will also participate in the debate during the Session II on the theme “Emerging Issues: Food and Energy Security, And Economic Challenges”. Hon’ble Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha will participate in the debate during Session IV on the theme “Social Inclusion, Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment”.
During the Concluding Session, the Lok Sabha Speaker will deliver a Special Address inviting the G20 speakers to India to attend the 9th P20 Summit to be held in 2023 under the Chairmanship of the Parliament of India.
On the sidelines of the extant Summit, Shri Birla will also hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts of participating Parliaments.
P20 is the Parliamentary dimension of G20 Member countries, which represents around 80 percent of the global gross domestic product, over 75 percent of global trade and two-thirds of the world’s population.
