Mexico City / New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla unveiled a statue of Swami Vivekananda at Autonomous University of State of Hidalgo in Mexico. This is the first statue of Swami Vivekananda in Latin America.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Birla said that teachings and personality of Swami Vivekananda have inspired people not only in India but across the world. Today, people all over the world are looking forward to his ideals and taking pledge to follow them for betterment of their lives and society.
Referring to Swami Vivekananda’s 1893 speech in Chicago, Shri Birla said that he had beautifully displayed the characteristics of Indian culture in his speech. He felt that Swami Vivekananda’s message is for the entire humanity which transcends time and geographical boundaries. Shri Birla felt that unveiling of a statue of Swami Vivekananda in Mexico is a mark of our reverence and respect to him. Shri Birla observed that Swami Vivekananda is an epitome of the best qualities of Indian culture.
Referring to the ideals of Swami Vivekananda in character building and institution building, Shri Birla said that and a just, prosperous and inclusive world can be created through character building by following the path shown by Swami Vivekananda. He has shown the way how we should live our life and how institutions should be built. The message that he has given to the country and society is going to inspire every generation, will show path to them for their future, said Shri Birla.
Speaking on the role of youth in the society, Shri Birla said that Swami Vivekananda had unflinching faith in youth and youth power. He inspired the youth of India to fight for freedom with new energy. Swami Vivekananda reminded India of its strength, made us realize our potential, revived mind and soul, and awakened the national consciousness, said Shri Birla.
Shri Birla also interacted with Indian students, who had gathered in large number at the funcuion for unveiling the statue. He noted that these students are highly inspired by Swami Ji’s teachings. There are around 70000 Indian students in Mexico who are pursuing different courses.
After a highly successful visit to Mexico, Shri Birla thanked Mexican Parliament and Government for viewing the visit of Indian Parliamentary Delegation as a platform to boost bilateral relations.
