New Parliament House: CPWD invites bids for floral work

New Delhi: In a sign of official inauguration of the new Parliament House much ahead of the upcoming winter session, the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has invited bids for “floral arrangements and decorations” with an estimated cost of around Rs 13.48 lakh.

According to the tender document, the successful bidder will have to make arrangements in three days, when the government will fix the date of inauguration.

Officials said that usually such tenders for flower decoration are called closer to the expected date of any event. He said the work is almost complete and the ongoing work is being thoroughly reviewed by top officials, who are spending hours at the site.

Sources said a formal announcement about the inauguration is expected in the next two weeks. “Since the flower arrangements and decorations will be on a large scale considering the size of the new building, the CPWD is already shortlisting the contractor. Every detail is being worked out for the grand opening,” said an official.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a surprise visit on March 30 and took stock of the facilities in both the new Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The PM spent nearly two hours reviewing ongoing works including power supply, facilities, offices of ministers and MPs, besides security arrangements.
