No-Trust’ Against Dhankar New Flashpoint Between BJP, Congress

New Delhi : Rajya Sabha on Wednesday logged another day of no business, courtesy of the commotion between the opposition and treasury benches, mainly over the Adani indictment, George Soros and the no-confidence notice against the House chair and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar. This is the third consecutive day the Rajya Sabha witnessed chaos and adjournments.

Today’s uproar began shortly after the House reassembled at noon following the day’s first adjournment. Health Minister JP Nadda addressed the House and accused the Congress of standing with billionaire investor George Soros in seeking to destabilise the country. Nadda also slammed the opposition parties over the no-trust notice against Jagdeep Dhankar and said that it was an attempt by Congress to divert attention from the Soros issue.

“I want to bring to your notice that for the last two days our people are raising the issue of what relationship does the Congress top leadership have with George Soros. What is the relationship between Soros and Sonia Gandhi?,” Nadda asked.

“I also want to point out that the manner in which Congress is making allegations against the Chair is condemnable. It should be condemned by one and all. They have never respected the Chair, be it inside or outside the House — the way they have made comments against the Chair’s decision and those sitting on constitutional posts,” he claimed.

Earlier during the House proceedings, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju slammed Congress over the no-trust motion against Jagdeep Dhankar and said that if the opposition attacks the dignity of the Chairman, “we will protect”. He also slammed the opposition saying, “You have no right to be members if you can’t respect the Chair. We have taken an oath to protect the sovereignty of the country,” he said.

“Notice has been given against the Chairman. It is difficult to find such a Chairman. He has always talked of the welfare of the poor, protected Constitution. We will not allow the drama of notice to succeed,” Rijiju said.

Meanwhile, opposition MPs staged a unique protest outside the Parliament against the government, giving a rose flower and Indian flags to NDA MPs. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra joined the protesters and gave roses and Tiranga to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh as the latter entered the Parliament building.

Congress MP Sukhdeo Bhagat accused the BJP government of turning Parliament into the ‘Lajvanti’ (shame plant). “The BJP government has turned the Parliament into the ‘Lajvanti’ (shame plant). The House gets adjourned the moment Adani’s name comes up. We are distributing the National Flag following the Parliamentary decorum,” Bhagat said, as quoted by ANI.

The Winter session of Parliament commenced on November 25, with both Houses getting adjourned fairly early due to disruptions. The Winter Session will go on till December 20.
