New Delhi: All 40 MLAs of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena have responded to the disqualification notice issued by Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar, while 14 Shiv Sena (UBT) MLAs have not responded to the notice within the stipulated period. The notice was in connection with the disqualification petitions against him.
It is being told that in the next 2-3 days, 14 MLAs led by Uddhav will submit their answers.
Following the Supreme Court order on the Shiv Sena issue, Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar issued notices to 40 MLAs of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and 14 MLAs of the Uddhav Thackeray faction, seeking their response on disqualification petitions against them.
The Supreme Court, in its order passed in May, had said that the issue of disqualification of legislators would be decided by the speaker.
According to Legislature Secretariat officials, the disqualification proceedings will begin after the current monsoon session. The session will end in early August.
Disqualification proceedings were initiated in 2022 against UBT Shiv Sena legislators by Shinde-led Sena whip Bharat Gogavale, while UBT camp whip Sunil Prabhu initiated similar proceedings against legislators who were part of the Shinde faction. Were.
Earlier, Sunil Prabhu, an MLA from the Uddhav Thackeray-led Sena, had filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking a direction to the Maharashtra Assembly Speaker to expeditiously decide the disqualification petitions against 16 MLAs, including Eknath Shinde.
Commanding the support of most MLAs and Shiv Sena leaders, Eknath Shinde, who was the urban development minister in the Uddhav-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government, resigned in June 2022.
