SHRI BIRLA TO ADDRESS IPU ASSEMBLY ON: PROMOTING PEACEFUL CO-EXISTENCE AND INCLUSIVE SOCIETIES: FIGHT AGAINST INTOLERANCE

New Delhi, 9 March 2023: Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla will lead an Indian Parliamentary Delegation (IPD) to the 146th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to be held in Manama, Bahrain from 11 to 15 March 2023.

On 10 March 2023, Shri Birla will meet with Mr. Duarte Pacheco, President of IPU and discuss matters of mutual interest. Later in the evening, Shri Birla will interact with Members of the Indian community in Manama.

On 11 March 2023, the Indian Parliamentary Delegation will participate in the Asia Pacific Group meeting of the IPU. Later, Shri Birla will lead Members of the Indian delegation at the opening ceremony to be held in the Plenary Hall under the patronage of the King of Bahrain.

During its stay in Manama, the Indian Parliamentary Delegation led by Shri Birla will also attend the General Debate of the 146th Assembly of the IPU on 12 March 2023. Shri Birla will address the Assembly on the topic: “Promoting peaceful co-existence and inclusive societies: Fight against intolerance”.

In addition, Shri Birla will also hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from several countries. Among other dignitaries, Shri Birla will meet Presiding Officers of the Parliaments of the G20 countries and personally invite them to the P20 Summit to be held in New Delhi later this year.

Shri Birla will also visit the 200-year-old Shrinathji [Shri Krishna] Hindu Temple located in the heart of Manama, Bahrain.

The Indian Parliamentary Delegation left for Manama from Delhi today, i.e. on 9 March 2023.

The Delegation consists of Shri Bhatruhari Mahtab; Smt. Poonamben Maadam; Shri Vishnu Dayal Ram; Dr. Heena Vijaykumar Gavit ; Smt. Rakhsha Nikhil Khadse; Smt. Diya Kumari and Smt. Aparajita Sarangi, Members of Lok Sabha and Shri Tiruchi Siva; Dr. Sasmit Patra; Dr.Radha Mohan Das Agrawal, Members of Rajya Sabha and Shri Utpal Kumar Singh, Secretary General, Lok Sabha.

In view of the second phase of the Budget Session beginning from March 13, Shri Birla will return to New Delhi on March 12 itself.
