New Delhi: MLAs are likely to bid farewell to the old Parliament building in the five-day special session of Parliament starting next Monday. According to government insiders, the inauguration of the new building will take place on Ganesh Chaturthi, which is on September 19. On the first day of the special session, both the Houses are likely to discuss the role and significance of the old Parliament House before and after the country’s independence. After this, a joint sitting of Parliament is likely to be held in the old or new building. A puja is expected to be held on Ganesh Chaturthi before the inauguration of the new building.
In the special session, employees of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha secretariats will assist in the proceedings by wearing new uniforms. The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) was tasked with formulating the new dress code for all staff members, from security to officials, during Parliament proceedings. The dress code of the secretariat staff will change from ‘Sandhagala’ suit to magenta colored Nehru jacket, magenta colored lotus-printed cream shirt and khaki trousers.
The dress of the marshals deployed in both the houses of Parliament has also been changed. He may have been wearing a Manipuri or Kannada turban.
Parliament staff members have been trained on behaviour, work ethics and familiarization with the new Parliament House. Commando training has also been given to the security staff of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Their safari suits have been replaced with military-style camouflage clothing. The new building will host a three-day meeting of Presiding Officers from October 12, with people from more than 30 countries confirmed to participate.
