Thiruvananthapuram: Like yesterday, the proceedings of the House were adjourned for the day by canceling the Question Hour on Friday. The assembly met today only for nine minutes. The Assembly was adjourned amid protests over cases registered as non-bailable offenses against Congress MLAs for alleged assault on watch and ward during a ruckus in front of the Speaker’s office.
As soon as the question hour started, the opposition raised slogans and protested. The protest began after the Speaker refused to allow Leader of the Opposition V D Satheesan to raise the issue during Question Hour. Leader of the Opposition V D Satheesan said that the seven MLAs who were litigants have now become suspects. A case has been registered against them under the non-bailable section. The opposition opposed it. The ruckus of the opposition continued during the Question Hour. After this, the speaker switched off the mike of the Leader of the Opposition.
The ruling party protested against the opposition. MLA Sachin Dev said that the tendency of the opposition has been to obstruct the question hour. The opposition shouted slogans and came to the Well of the House with placards. After this, the speaker canceled the rest of the question hour. Request submitted. The Speaker accused the opposition of not cooperating in the proceedings of the Assembly despite repeated requests and termed it as disappointing. There will be assembly meeting again on Monday morning at 9.30 am.
