Standing Committee on IT will discuss the ‘Ethical standards in media coverage’ alongwith ‘Citizens’ data security and privacy’

New Delhi: The Standing Committee on Information Technology will discuss the ‘Ethical standards in media coverage’ alongwith the ‘Review of functioning of Prasar Bharati Organization’.

The committee have selected the following other subjects for examination during the year 2021-22: related to Ministry of Information & broadcasting. Indian Film Industry: Problems and Challenges; Review of functioning of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC); Review of functioning and outreach of Doordarshan Channels; Review of functioning of Bureau of Outreach and Communication (BOC) and Community Radio Stations: Growth, Opportunities and Challenges

The subjects related to Ministry of Electronics and Information technology are (i) Citizens’ data security and privacy (ii) Digital Payment and Online Security measures for data protection (iii) Review of functioning of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) (iv) Safeguarding citizens’ rights and prevention of misuse of social/online news media platforms including special emphasis on women security in the digital space (v) Promotion of Electronics/IT Hardware/telecom equipment manufacturing sector under Make in India and measures for reduction of imports (vi) Technology initiatives taken by MeitY in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic (vii) Review of cyber security scenario in India 2 (viii) Review of functioning of CSC-SPV (ix) Review of functioning of Information Technology Act, 2000

Subjects concerning with Department of Posts (under Ministry of Communications) are (i) Real Estate Management in the Department of Posts (ii) Department of Posts – Initiatives and Challenges (iii) Review of postal services in North Eastern Region

Subjects related to Department of telecommunications of same ministry are (i) Review of functioning of BSNL and MTNL and plan for enhancing their performance (ii) Review of functioning of TRAI (iii) Review of the performance of schemes under Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) with special emphasis on North East and LWE affected areas (iv) Suspension of Telecom Services/Internet and its impact (v) Issues confronting Telecom Sector including Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) (vi) Inter-sectoral review of challenges of emerging and converging technologies, entities and practices (vii) Review of functioning of Indian Telegraph Act, 1885.
