Supreme Court rejects Mahua Moitra’s urgent hearing plea on Lok Sabha expulsion

New Delhi : The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to grant an urgent hearing to Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mahua Moitra’s challenging her expulsion from the Lok Sabha.

Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi mentioned Moitra’s petition before the Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud seeking listing either Thursday or Friday.

But the bench headed by the CJI asked Singhvi to send an email, and he would have a look at it.

“The matter may not have been registered. If an email was sent, I would look at it right away. Please send it. I’ll look at it,” CJI told Singhvi.

Earlier in the day, Singhvi mentioned the case before a bench headed by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul who asked him to mention it before the CJI for necessary directions.

Counsel for Mahua Moitra is seeking early listing of the case because the Supreme Court is closing for winter vacations from December 15.

On December 8, Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha after the House adopted the report of its Ethics Committee that held her guilty of accepting gifts and illegal gratification from businessman Darshan Hiranandani to further his interest. The TMC leader has vehemently denied the allegations.
