9TH P20 SUMMIT IS CENTERS AROUND THEME “VASUDHAIVA KUTUMBAKAM- PARLIAMENTS FOR ONE EARTH, ONE FAMILY, ONE FUTURE”

New Delhi; 11 October – Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 9th P20 Summit on October 13, 2023. Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla will grace the occasion. Besides Presiding Officers of Parliaments of G20 Nations, Presiding Officers of Parliaments of invited countries will also attend the Summit. Notably, the President of the Pan African Parliament will be making their inaugural participation in the P-20 Summit hosted in India. The Summit will be held at the newly constructed India International Convention and Expo Center (IICC) in Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, New Delhi.

Mr. Arthur César Pereira de Lira President of the Chamber of Deputies, Brazil; Speaker of the House of Commons, the Rt Hon Sir Lindsay Hoyle; President of Pan African Union . H. E. Dr. Ashebir W Gayo; H.E. Ms. Ana Lilia Rivera Rivera, President of the Senate, Mexico; H.E. Mr. Kim Jin-pyo, Speaker of the National Assembly , Republic of Korea; H.E. Mr. Amos Masondo, Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces,South Africa. H.E. Mr. Shaikh Abdulmalik Abdullah Al Khalili, Chairman of the State Council, Oman,H.E. Mr. Duarte Pacheco, President, IPU have arrived today to attend the Summit.

H.E. Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Speaker of Parliament of Bangladesh arrived on 10 October, 2023. Presiding officers of both Houses of Parliament of Australia, Senator the Hon. Ms. Sue Lines, President of the Senate of Australia and the Hon. Mr. Milton Dick, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Australia arrived in New Delhi 07 October 2023 to attend the Summit.

Adhering to the philosophy of “VASUDHAIVA KUTUMBAKAM – Parliaments for One Earth, One Family, One Future” the Summit highlights the importance of global unity and cooperation. It emphasizes the idea that our world is one interconnected family and that our collective actions today shape the future for all. This theme serves as a reminder to parliaments and nations worldwide that addressing global challenges, such as sustainable development, climate change, gender equality and peace, requires collaborative efforts, transcending borders and differences. It embodies the spirit of coming together as a global community to build a better future for everyone, leaving no one behind.

The two day Summit will deliberate on the following subjects of contemporary relevance:
(i) Agenda 2030 for SDGs: Showcasing Achievements, Accelerating Progress;
(ii) Sustainable Energy Transition Gateway to Green Future;
(iii) Mainstreaming Gender Equality- From Women’s Development to Women led Development; and
(iv) Transformation in Peoples’ Lives through Public Digital Platforms

These subjects underscore the immediate imperative of tackling the critical global issues we face today. Together, they encompass a holistic strategy aimed at creating a more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable future that benefits everyone.

The 9th P-20 Summit will be preceded by a Parliamentary Forum on LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) scheduled for October 12, 2023, leading up to the main event on October 13-14, 2023. The LiFE movement, initiated by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in June 2022, is a worldwide endeavor dedicated to advocating sustainable lifestyles and safeguarding our environment.

The Parliamentary Forum on LiFE will bring together parliamentarians from G-20 nations, along with invited countries and international organizations, to deliberate on strategies for advancing sustainable lifestyles and combating climate change. This forum holds substantial significance, serving as a platform for parliamentarians to exchange insights and successful approaches in the promotion of sustainable living. Furthermore, it will plays a pivotal role in increasing awareness of the LiFE movement and its overarching objectives.

In conjunction with the Summit, an exhibition titled ‘Mother of Democracy’ will be organized, shedding light on India’s ancient and participatory democratic traditions. At the culmination of the Summit, Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla will deliver the Valedictory address on October 14, 2023.
