SURAT 12 October: Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla interacted with students of Bhagwan Mahaveer Vishwavidyalaya in Surat today on the theme “Role of youth in Indian democracy”. On this occasion, Shri Birla congratulated the Bhagwan Mahaveer Foundation and all the students for the inauguration of its Law College. Addressing the students, Shri Birla felt that the solutions to challenges facing the world will emerge from universities. He added that the country’s education policy is not only developing the intellectual potential of the youth, but it is also showing the way forward for their multidimensional progress.
Shri Birla opined that active participation of youth is necessary for improved legislation in the country . He further said that active participation of students is also necessary to ensure transparency in governance. Referring to the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, Shri Birla observed that parliamentary democratic system in India continues to be the best method of governance as there is no alternative to parliamentary democracy for nation’s progress. Shri Birla exhorted the students that the law of the land must be paramount and law students have a major contribution to ensure that all citizens get their rights.
Mentioning about the improved economic progress of the nation, Shri Birla said that Indian youth are solving challenges faced by the world on the basis of innovation and research. He further said that today in every major country, in every field, Indian youth are leading at the top level.
Speaking about nation’s heritage, Shri Birla said that Indian youth is moving towards the spiritual age inspired by nation’s ancient history along with material progress. He added that Indian youth are not affected by stress and depression due to deep attachment to their spiritual heritage. Shri Birla underlined that India is proud that the exceptional education system of our ancient world ensured the development of intellectual capacity, alongside emphasis on sensitivity and humanity.
Referring to the emerging profile of the nation, Shri Birla said that our progress is based on democratic institutions and democracy. He further said that rights have been given to every person from Panchayat to Parliament and transparency has been ensured at all levels in the system.
In the context of Amrit Kaal, Shri Birla noted that India will emerge as a developed nation by 2047 and will take its rightful place in the world on the basis of its strong democratic credentials and inspirational leadership. Speaking about the strength of the nation’s democratic system, Shri Birla said that the smooth transfer of power is the strength of our democracy.
