Chennai : AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has renewed his call for the live broadcasting of Tamil Nadu Assembly proceedings, arguing that greater transparency is needed in the legislative process. Speaking to reporters at the Coimbatore Airport on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, the former Chief Minister emphasized that the public deserves to witness the functioning of the House firsthand.
During the briefing, Mr. Palaniswami expressed significant dissatisfaction with the current administration’s performance, particularly regarding the quality of information provided by ministers during sessions. He alleged that, with few exceptions, state ministers have consistently failed to provide adequate or substantive replies to questions raised in the Assembly, leaving critical issues unaddressed.
Concerns Over State Finances and Governance
Beyond legislative transparency, the AIADMK leader raised alarms regarding the state’s fiscal health. He pointed to the mounting debt burden of the government, questioning the logic behind announcing new power projects that require investments totaling thousands of crores. According to Mr. Palaniswami, these financial commitments are being made despite the state’s precarious economic situation and a lack of clear measures to improve revenue generation.
The former Chief Minister also highlighted ongoing concerns in the transport sector, specifically the continued reliance on aging bus fleets. He urged the government to prioritize the replacement of these vehicles to ensure better service for the public. Furthermore, he addressed the issue of corruption, citing recent raids by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) that resulted in the seizure of cash. He characterized these incidents as clear indicators that corruption remains a pervasive issue across the state.
