Bangladesh : Parliamentary committee for mandatory moral education

Dhaka : The Parliamentary standing committee on primary and mass education ministry has recommended introducing mandatory moral education at the primary education level.

At the first meeting of the standing committee at the National Parliament Building on Wednesday, it also recommended ensuring proper quality and nutrition for children in the ongoing primary school feeding programme.

The committee furthermore recommended punitive measures against those responsible if quality is not maintained in the school feeding programme.

The committee chair Mahmuda Habiba MP presided over the meeting attended by education minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milan, state minister Bobby Hajjaj, lawmakers Lutfor Rahman Khan Azad, Md Abdus Salam, Md Sadik Riaz, Md Elias Mollah, Md. Moktar Ali, and Mahfuza Hannan.

During the meeting, a PowerPoint presentation was delivered detailing the sector-wise breakdown, budget allocation, and expenditure plans for the fiscal year ending 30 June 2027 for the entities under the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.

Taking part in discussions on the presentation, committee members recommended increasing the number of schools to guarantee primary school enrollment for all children in the country

The committee suggested quickly filling all vacant headmaster positions in government primary schools.

It also recommended ensuring the proper implementation and utilization of budgets allocated across various sectors.

In addition, all committee members were advised to conduct on-site inspections of primary school operations while schools are in session.

Additional secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, heads of various departments under the ministry, and relevant officers from the Parliament Secretariat were present.
