Cambodia prepares to host Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference

Phnom Penh : The National Assembly and Senate are preparing to host the 2nd Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC), which will bring together leaders of legislative bodies from countries to seek common solutions to global challenges.

The two legislatures met on Monday to review progress and prepare for the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference in August.

The meeting was attended by Ouch Borith, Acting President of the Senate and Chairman of the Steering Committee for the Second ISC Conference, along with leaders of the National Assembly.

The ISC is an international parliamentary diplomacy forum set up to bring together leaders of legislative bodies to discuss and seek common solutions to global challenges.

According to the National Assembly, hosting the second ISC conference will enhance the diplomatic role and international influence of the Cambodian parliament, enabling it to contribute more actively to the region and the world.

The National Assembly added that the ISC conference in Cambodia aims to expand relations among parliaments of member countries in maintaining peace, international order and sustainable development, while also exchanging views and best practices on law enforcement and addressing global challenges such as security, technology and climate change.

The event is also expected to enhance Cambodia’s image by showcasing political stability, rich culture and economic potential.

Khek Chamnan, an international newsreader, said the ISC was established in Seoul under the leadership of Gilani, President of the Senate of Pakistan, to promote dialogue and cooperation among parliaments, advance peace and sustainable development, seek common solutions to cross-border issues, strengthen parliamentary diplomacy and address global crises.

The first ISC conference was held in Islamabad in November 2025. Cambodia is a founding member of the ISC, and Senate President Hun Sen supports the forum.

Chamman added that Cambodia’s hosting the ISC presents an opportunity to strengthen the country’s role and influence on the international stage and showcase its achievements to member countries.
