Central Vista Project: The size of the MP’s complex, estimated cost decreased

New Delhi: The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) on Thursday revised the size and estimated cost of the proposed office complex for MPs near Parliament, reducing the cost by Rs 225 crore and the total plinth area by 20,000 square metres.

CPWD floated a revised pre-qualification bid for the ‘MP Chambers’ project with an estimated cost of Rs 1,210 crore and a total plinth area of 98,000 sqm. In November 2022, the government construction agency had for the first time invited pre-qualification bids for the project with an estimated cost of Rs 1,435 crore and a total plinth area of 1,18,000 sqm. Now, the buildings in the campus are proposed to be eight storeys, whereas earlier there was a proposal for 10 storey structures. A CPWD official said that the design of the project has been changed.

In Thursday’s call for bids, the last date for which is January 27, the CPWD has also revised the financial criteria for potential bidders. The eligibility criteria was revised from annual financial turnover of Rs 430.50 crore to Rs 363 crore and minimum net worth from Rs 143.5 crore to Rs 121 crore. The winning bidder will also get a shorter time to complete the project, with the timeline being reduced from 36 months to 30 months. Once the potential bidders are selected, CPWD will invite financial bids, based on which a company will be selected.

As a part of a major revamp of the Central Vista area, the ‘MP Chambers’ project will come up in place of Transport Bhawan and Shram Shakti Bhawan after the demolition of the existing structures.

“The proposed office building shall be of structure building made of reinforced cement concrete. The existing structure at Plot No. 119 is to be demolished before the commencement of the new construction… The proposed/subject work shall consist of carefully planned formation of all MP offices with ancillary facilities shall be designed to improve efficiencies and methodologies,” the pre-qualification bid document said.
