Cinematic-style hate politics by MLAs unacceptable: Speaker U T Khader

Mangaluru: Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker U T Khader on Saturday said that legislators should not indulge in cinematic-style hate politics, warning that such behaviour reduces public respect for elected representatives.

Speaking to reporters at the Circuit House in Mangaluru, Khader responded to questions related to the recent untoward incident during the Valmiki statue unveiling programme in Ballari.

He said MLAs must act with restraint and work to uphold culture and dignity. Issuing threats against one another is not appropriate, he added.

When asked whether he was in the race for the post of Chief Minister, Khader said he was not in any hurry to become the Chief Minister. He stated that such a position could be considered after 20 years, and only if voters elected him four more times from his constituency.

Former mayors Shashidhar Hegde and Bhaskar K, along with former members Praveen Chandra Alva and Anil Kumar, were present on the occasion.
