Dalai Lama’s Representative Lobsang Choedak Meets Japanese Parliamentary Support Group General Secretary

Tokyo: Lobsang Choedak, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Central Tibetan Administration to Japan, met with Akimasa Ishikawa, Member of the House of Representatives and general secretary of the Japan Parliamentary Support Group for Tibet, at the House of Representatives office building on 28 October 2026.

Ishikawa was briefed on the Kashag’s statement on the tragic loss of life among many Tibetans in the devastating magnitude-7 earthquake which struck Drachen County and surrounding areas in the Nagchu region of Tibet on 22 October, and its deep concern over the Chinese government’s restriction on rescue and relief efforts in the affected region. The Chinese authorities report at least 16 people have died and 76 have been injured. The earthquake has caused extensive damage to homes and infrastructure, but reports from local sources suggest that the actual toll may be considerably higher.

During the meeting, Representative Lobsang Choedak explained to Ishikawa the key points of the revised Vision Paper, the policy direction of the present Kashag of the Central Tibetan Administration. Japanese translation of the revised Vision Paper was also presented at the meeting.

A copy of the Japanese version of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s autobiography, Voice for the Voiceless, was presented to Ishikawa during the meeting.
