Mumbai : Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Anna Bansode has issued formal directives to ensure the high-quality restoration and preservation of educational institutions and hostels managed by the People’s Education Society (PES) in Mumbai. Founded by Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, these historic sites are set to undergo significant upgrades funded by a special ₹500 crore allocation from the state’s Social Justice Department.
The directive came during a high-level review meeting chaired by Bansode on Wednesday, where the progress of conservation efforts for nine educational institutions and two hostels was assessed. The meeting focused on streamlining administrative approvals and ensuring that the renovation work aligns with the historical significance of the buildings, which serve as a vital part of the state’s educational legacy.
Coordinated Efforts for Heritage Conservation
During the session, Deputy Speaker Bansode emphasized the need for a well-coordinated approach between the Social Justice Department, the Public Works Department, and the Finance Department. He instructed officials to expedite the administrative approval process for pending proposals, ensuring that projects already cleared are executed with meticulous planning and quality standards.
The meeting was attended by key government officials, including Joint Secretary of the Social Justice Department Na. Bagul, Joint Secretary of the Public Works Department Pu. Pra. Sabne, and Under Secretary of the Finance Department Shi. Bha. Bhogte. Representatives from the People’s Education Society, including Secretary Dr. Vasudev Gade and Chandrashekhar Kamble, were also present to discuss the implementation roadmap.

Bansode underscored that these institutions are more than just buildings; they represent the enduring vision of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. He noted that the preservation of these sites is essential to ensure that the work and ideals of Dr. Ambedkar continue to inspire and guide future generations. The Deputy Speaker has requested a comprehensive status report on all planned conservation activities to be presented at the next review meeting to ensure accountability and progress.
