Agartala : In a rare transition from public life back to the teaching profession, former Lok Sabha Member Rebati Tripura has resumed his duties as a Post Graduate Teacher (Political Science) at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Higher Secondary School in Agartala, returning to the classroom after more than seven and a half years of parliamentary and political service.
Rebati Tripura officially rejoined the school on July 20, 2026, and has already begun taking regular classes in accordance with the institution’s academic schedule. His return marks a significant shift from national politics to education, reaffirming his commitment to his original profession as a teacher.
According to school authorities, since rejoining, he has been sincerely conducting classes for students from Classes VI to XII as per the prescribed routine. Beyond classroom teaching, he has actively participated in co-curricular and educational activities, including attending symposiums and National Service Scheme (NSS) programmes aimed at motivating students through philanthropy and community service.
Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Higher Secondary School, one of Agartala’s oldest and most respected educational institutions, was where Rebati Tripura served as a Political Science teacher before entering electoral politics.
Headmaster (In-Charge) Titu Saha praised his commitment, stating that Rebati Tripura has been carrying out his academic responsibilities with dedication since his return. He noted that the former MP has quickly reconnected with colleagues and students, adding that his presence has been warmly welcomed by the school community.
Speaking to the media, Rebati Tripura expressed happiness at returning to teaching and said interacting with students has given him immense satisfaction. Emphasising his commitment to the profession, he made a noteworthy statement that if, after working for some time, he ever feels unable to give his students his full dedication, he would voluntarily resign and seek retirement so that a qualified and deserving unemployed candidate could be appointed in his place.
Notably, Rebati Tripura was a former Member of Parliament who represented the Tripura East Lok Sabha constituency from 2019 to 2024. Born on January 1, 1976, in Durgapur, Dhalai, Tripura, he served as the Lok Sabha MP for Tripura East in the 17th Lok Sabha after winning the 2019 election. Functioned as a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, he also appointed as the President of the BJP’s ST Morcha in Tripura. He was also active as a BJP core committee member in Tripura, commenting on regional governance and tribal council matters.
