Jaipur; 10 January, 2023: The 83rd All India Presiding Officers’ Conference (AIPOC) is being held at Jaipur from 10 to 13 January, 2023. Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla will Chair the Conference. Shri Birla has already reached Jaipur for the Conference and on his arrival he was given a warm welcome and inspected Guard of Honour.
During the two-day Conference, Presiding Officers of Legislative Assemblies and Legislative Councils from all over the country will brainstorm on various matters ranging from India’s leadership of the G-20 to harmonious relations between the legislature and the judiciary.
As part of the AIPOC, the 59th Conference of Secretaries of Legislative Bodies in India was held today to discuss the following Agenda Topics:
i. Enforcing Executive Accountability by strengthening Committee system in State legislatures;
ii. Connecting legislative Bodies in India through the use of digital technology; and
iii. Bringing legislative bodies in India closer to the people by expanding outreach.
Chairing the Session, Secretary – General, Lok Sabha, Shri Utpal Kumar Singh lauded the efforts of the legislatures for continuing to perform their legislative responsibilities despite the Covid pandemic. The legislatures met, deliberated on several milestone legislations and fulfilled the hopes and aspirations of the people notwithstanding the Covid pandemic, said Shri Singh. Mentioning about achievements of parliamentarians, Shri Singh said that parliamentarians from India by becoming members and treasurer of CPA made India proud.
Shri Singh expressed happiness that legislatures are increasingly using technology to improve their efficiency and efficacy. He mentioned about the Digital Sansad project and said that once implemented, this will provide a comprehensive digital platform to the Members and will facilitate their work.
Speaking about India hosting G-20 countries in 2023, Shri Singh said that it is a matter of pride that on the sidelines of G-20, Parliament of India will be organizing P-20 Conference where presiding officers and parliamentarians of G-20 countries will exchange ideas and share their best practices. Shri Singh thanked Rajasthan Legislative Assembly for organizing the Conference and for extending hospitality to the Presiding Officers, Secretaries and others.
Secretary – General, Rajya Sabha, Shri P C Mody and Principal Secretary, Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, Shri Mahaveer Prasad Sharma also spoke on the occasion.
