New Delhi: Jagdeep Dhankhar has become the 14th Vice President of the country. President Draupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to Dhankhar at the swearing-in ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari besides several Union ministers attended the swearing-in ceremony. Former President of the country Ram Nath Kovind, former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and former Vice President Hamid Ansari along with many other dignitaries also attended Dhankhar’s swearing-in program.
Before taking oath, Jagdeep Dhankhar paid tribute to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat on Thursday morning. Dhankhar, while paying homage to Bapu at Rajghat, tweeted his pictures and videos and wrote – Paying homage to revered Bapu, feel blessed and inspired to always be ready to serve India in the serene magnificence of Rajghat .
Former West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar has won the Vice-President’s election by defeating Margaret Alva, the joint candidate of the opposition parties, as the NDA candidate. Dhankhar has replaced Venkaiah Naidu as the 14th Vice President of the country, whose term ended on August 10.
