BENGALURU : Legislative Council Chairman Saleem Ahmed on Wednesday warned that officials who fail to attend the Upper House could face suspension.
During a discussion on drought, Congress member Shivakumar said the Chief Secretary had not attended the Legislative Council even once during the ongoing session. He said the Chief Secretary could have at least visited the House and stayed for two to three hours.
JDS member S.L. Bhoje Gowda then said nine ministers who were required to attend the House were absent. He also said eight senior officials had not attended the proceedings.
“Our demand that ministers should attend the House has become a cry in the wilderness,” Bhoje Gowda said.
Following this, Chairman Saleem Ahmed directed Leader of the House Yathindra Siddaramaiah to ensure the presence of the ministers.
He also warned that if officials continued to remain absent, he would write to the Chief Secretary seeking their suspension.
