Kashmir Univ. National Youth Parliament Champions Flagged Off to Receive National Award at Parliament House

Srinagar : The University of Kashmir on Sunday flagged off its National Youth Parliament Team to New Delhi, where the students will receive the prestigious National Championship Award in the 17th National Youth Parliament Competition (2025–26) at Parliament House.

The 50-member contingent, led by Cultural Officer and National Youth Parliament Coordinator Dr. Shahid Ali Khan, will be honoured at the country’s highest legislative institution for securing the national title.

In her message, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan congratulated the students and described the achievement as one of the highest honours the University could earn beyond academics.

“The triumph of our students is a celebration of knowledge, leadership and democratic values. Their recognition at Parliament House reflects the vision, confidence and talent of the youth of Kashmir. They carry with them the pride and aspirations of the University of Kashmir,” she said.

Registrar Prof. Naseer Iqbal said the achievement reflects the University’s culture of excellence, discipline and perseverance. He congratulated the students and appreciated the efforts of mentor Dr. Shahid Ali Khan for guiding the team to national success.

The flag-off ceremony was led by Controller of Examinations Prof. Majid Zaman in the presence of Dean Students’ Welfare Prof. Seema Singh, Dean School of Earth and Environmental Sciences Prof. Pervez Ahmad, Chief Proctor Prof. Imtiyaz Ahmed, faculty members, university officials, students and parents.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Majid Zaman said the national recognition is a matter of immense pride for both the University of Kashmir and Jammu and Kashmir.

“Being honoured at Parliament House reflects the dedication, discipline and intellectual excellence of our students. We hope they continue to inspire future generations,” he said.

Dean Students’ Welfare Prof. Seema Singh described the occasion as a historic milestone for the University, saying the students had displayed exceptional talent, confidence and democratic values through their outstanding performance.

Prof. Pervez Ahmad said the Youth Parliament platform helps students understand democratic institutions, constitutional values and public policy, while showcasing their leadership potential at the national level.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Shahid Ali Khan said the achievement was the result of months of hard work, teamwork and dedication by the students.

“Receiving the National Championship Award at Parliament House is a defining moment in the University’s history. We dedicate this success to the University of Kashmir and hope it inspires more students to participate in nation-building through democratic engagement,” he said.

The University expressed confidence that the championship-winning team would represent the institution with dignity and bring further laurels to the University of Kashmir while receiving the national honour at Parliament House in New Delhi.
