Legislative bodies are working towards changing colonial laws and legacies: lok sabha speaker

Chennai 10 November : Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla addressed the Convocation Ceremony of SRM Institute of Science and Technology in Chennai today.

Addressing the teachers and students, Shri Birla observed that learning is a lifelong process that continually expands the intellect. He was happy to note that with innovative thinking and new ideas, our youth are moving ahead on the path of Atma Nirbhar Bharat. Shri Birla stressed that the youth are instrumental in bringing social, economic or political changes.

Referring to Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, Shri Birla recalled that in 75 years of Independence many important socio-economic transformations have taken place in the country. Shri Birla expressed hope that in the coming times, the youth would play an important role in bringing about socio-economic changes and help build a new India. He added in this Amrit Kaal it should be our vision that India will lead the world as a developed country on completion of one hundred years of independence as envisioned by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

Shri Birla suggested that the youth must embrace our ancient spiritual wisdom and culture while pursuing modern ideas. Shri Birla noted that owing to the intellectual and innovative potential of Indian youth and their scientific and technical knowledge, the entire world looks towards India for solutions to emerging challenges. He said that climate change is an issue of global concern and India would guide the world in dealing with the issues emerging out of it. He hoped that Indian youth would play a major role in fulfilling this resolution.

Observing that the world looks towards India and its youth for transformation, Shri Birla exhorted youth to engage in the legislative-political process as democracy calls for peoples’ participation and cooperation by all. He added that laws and policies improve with active participation of all stakeholders, leading to better Governance and policies. Observing that debate and discussions are an integral part of democracy, Shri Birla said that active deliberations lead to betterment of the society and it is upto the youth, to find effective solutions for the welfare of the society that would lead to the emergence of a New India. He added that the youth must share their inputs, research, innovations, and ideas with legislators, to ensure that their point of view is articulated in democratic institutions.

Shri Birla noted with satisfaction that legislative bodies have been working towards changing colonial laws and legacies and replacing them new laws in line with the peoples’ hopes and aspirations.

Exhorting the youth to lead the world in finding the solution to every challenge, Shri Birla said that the world has its hopes pinned on them because they have the capability to work untiringly to fulfill not only their own objectives but also to realize the hopes and dreams of the world at large through hard work and innovation.

Shri Birla thanked Lok Sabha MP and founder of SRM University Dr. T.R. Paarivendhar for having envisioned a world class educational institution. He congratulated the students who obtained their degree and appreciated the clean and green Campus of the University.
