New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has reconstituted four Parliamentary Committees for the year 2026-27. Lok Sabha BJP MP Dr Snajay Jaiswal has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Committee of Estimates comprising 30 members of the Lower House. The Committee on Public Undertakings comprising 15 members from Lok Sabha and 7 from Rajya Sabha will be headed by BJP MP Baijayant Panda.
Mr Birla has appointed Congress MP from Lok Sabha, K C Venugopal as the Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee. It includes 15 members from Lok Sabha and 7 members from Rajya Sabha. While the Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes will be headed by Lok Sabha BJP MP Faggan Singh Kulaste.
It comprised of 20 members from Lok Sabha and 10 from Rajya Sabha. The term of these Committees will be from 1st of this month to 30th of April next year.
A Parliamentary committee is a committee of the Members of Parliament (MPs) who are elected or appointed from amongst the members of the house or nominated by the Speaker or Chairman. This concept of Parliamentary committees was originated in the British Parliament. These committees have to operate under the direction of the Speaker of Lok Sabha or Chairman of Rajya Sabha. This committees have to present their findings and recommendations to the respective houses.
The Parliamentary committees are functions under the Article of 105 and 118 of the Indian Constitution.
Article 105: Powers, privileges, etc., of the houses of Parliament and of the members and committees thereof.
Article 118: Each House of Parliament may make rules for regulations, subject to the provisions of this constitution, its procedure and the conduct of its business.
- Committee of Estimates :
The committee of Estimates comprise the 30 members from the Lok Sabha and it will be chaired by the Sanjay Jaiswal. The main functions of this committee to examine how the government funds are allocated and spent. It also suggests the some measure to improve the working and reduce un un-necessary expenditure. It helps to ensure that the public resources are shall be used the most effective manner.

- Public Accounts Committee:
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) is one of the most influential financial committees in the India’s parliamentary system. For upcoming cycle it will be headed by the K. C. Venugopal. This committee includes 15 members from the Lok Sabha and 7 members from the Rajya Sabha. The PAC scrutinizes the government expenditure based on reports submitted by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India.
Traditionally this committee is chaired by the member from the opposition which showcases the principle of checks and balances in the democracy.
Members of newly constituted committee :
- Committee on Public Undertakings: This committee will chaired by the Baijayant Panda and it consists of 15 Lok Sabha members and 7 Rajya Sabha members. This committee reviews the functioning and the performance of public sector undertakings (PSUs) of government and also ensures that these enterprises will operate efficiently and work in line with national objectives. It also examines the reports of the CAG which are prepared for the PSUs.

- Committee on Welfare of SCs and ST: The Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes will be chaired by the Faggan Singh Kulaste. This committee includes the 20 members from the Lok Sabha and 10 from the Rajya Sabha. This committee main focus on to the safeguarding the rights and welfare of SC and ST communities. And it have to review the government policies and ensures that benefits from the government should reach the intended sections of society.
