LS Speaker to Lead Indian Parliamentary Delegation to 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum at Petersburg from 11-12 July

New Delhi- 9 July : Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla will lead an Indian Parliamentary Delegation (IPD) to the Tenth BRICS Parliamentary Forum (PF) to be held in St. Petersburg, Russia on 11-12 July 2024.

The Delegation will also comprise of Shri Harivansh, Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha; Shri Shambhu Sharan Patel, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha; Shri Utpal Kumar Singh, Secretary General, Lok Sabha; Shri P.C. Mody, Secretary General, Rajya Sabha. Shri Anjani Kumar, Joint Secretary, Lok Sabha Secretariat is the Secretary to the Delegation.

The overall theme of the Tenth BRICS Parliamentary Forum is‘ The Role of Parliaments in Strengthening Multilateralism for Equitable Global Development and Security’.

Speakers / Presiding Officers, Members of Parliament from BRICS Countries and Invitee countries, namely, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazhakstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan and the President of Inter-Parliamentary Union, H.E.Ms. Tulia Ackson, will participate in the meetings of BRICS Parliamentary Forum.

Lok Sabha Speaker will deliver speeches during the Plenary Sessions on two sub-themes namely ‘The BRICS Parliamentary dimension: Prospects for strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation’ and ‘The role of Parliaments in countering the fragmentation of the multilateral trade system and overcoming threats related to the consequences of global crises’. Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha will also address this Forum during the Plenary Sessions on two sub-themes viz ‘The role of Parliaments in enhancing the efficiency of the system of international relations and ensuring its democratization’ and ‘Inter-parliamentary cooperation in the humanitarian and cultural spheres’.

A Joint Statement will be adopted at the end of the Summit.

On the side-lines of this Forum, Hon’ble Speaker, Lok Sabha may also hold bilateral meetings with the Presiding Officers of participating Parliaments.

Lok Sabha Speaker will also meet members of Indian Diaspora at Moscow, Russia, during his visit.
