MLAs will be sent abroad on exposure trips: CM Sukhu

Shimla: The Himachal government is mulling to send all MLAs on foreign exposure trip. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that the state government will send MLAs for foreign tours. He said that provision for this will be made in future under departmental projects. With this, MLAs will be able to play a positive and effective role in the plans made for the progress of the state.

“We want that all MLAs be it of Congress or BJP go on exposure visit abroad,” said CM while responding while intervening in the answer of BJP MLA from Sullah in Kangra, Vipin Singh Parmar question on expenditure made by state government on exposure trips.

Earlier in reply to the question that state had informed that ₹1.59 crore was spent on foreign educational tours of schoolchildren in Himachal Pradesh, while on the teachers’ training program conducted by the government educational institution of Singapore (Principal Academy Singapore), government had spent ₹2.13 crore.
Earlier, while answering the question, education minister Rohit Thakur had said that criteria for selection of teachers and students for foreign tour were made, and the selection has been done in a transparent manner. Due to this, children from remote areas of the state including Ani, Kinnaur’s Rupi, Thural and other areas have come back after visiting abroad. He said that funding for this came under the Star Project sponsored by the World Bank. If this project gets an extension from the central government, then children will be sent on foreign tour next year also.
