Monsoon Session Of Karnataka Legislature: Assembly Passes 37 Bills In 71 Hours

Bengluru: The monsoon session of the state legislature which concluded Friday saw nine days of proceedings, totalling 71 hours and 1 minute, Speaker UT Khader said Saturday.
Held from Aug 11-22, the session emerged as one of the busiest in recent years. “This session of the House authorised the leader of the House, the chief minister, on Aug 21, to nominate members to various standing committees for the year 2025-26,” Khader said.
The assembly saw 39 bills tabled, with 37 passed. The Karnataka Crowd Control (Managing Crowd at Events and Places of Gathering) Bill, 2025, and the Karnataka Land Revenue (Second Amendment) Bill, 2025, were referred to the scrutiny committee for detailed review.
A special discussion on the status of govt schools and their development was started, with plans to continue it in the next session. “This discussion will be continued in the next winter session, possibly in Belagavi,” Khader said.
The session handled 21 notifications, four ordinances, 142 annual reports, 169 CAG and other reports, and accepted about 2,306 questions, providing answers to 128 of 135 starred questions. As many as 178 of 383 call-attention notices were addressed.
One privilege motion was referred to the privileges committee. “The monsoon session was significant not just for the sheer volume of business transacted, but also for the diversity of issues discussed,” Khader said, highlighting debates on education, public administration, crowd management, and land reforms.
Financial business also progressed, with the first instalment of supplementary estimates tabled on Aug 20 and approved on Aug 21.
