KATHMANDU : Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal has stated that preparations are underway to search and digitize past parliamentary documents. He gave this information while speaking at the test operation launch ceremony of the digital parliament platform organized on Wednesday.
Aryal stated that preparations are being made to make the federal parliament technology-friendly and to preserve Nepal’s parliamentary history in digital archives for the long term. He clarified that the long-term goal is to prepare archives that will allow Nepal’s parliamentary history to be searched and studied even 500 years from now. He also mentioned that audio and video materials expressed by parliamentarians in parliamentary sessions will be kept as secure records.
Speaking at the program, Aryal said, ‘How much of past histories can we include in this even after hundreds of years, we are searching for old data of Nepal’s parliamentary history.’ He added, ‘If we find those data, we will try to digitize and include all of them in this.’ He stated that there is a plan to keep all future programs secure in this system. Aryal said, ‘This is a long-term initiative, an effort called Nepal’s parliamentary history. This is not our desire, this is our need today.’
He pointed out the need to make not only the federal parliament but also the executive, judiciary, and the service delivery of federal, provincial, and local governments citizen-centric and technology-friendly. He emphasized the need to advance digital transformation with the objective of further strengthening citizens’ trust in the state, leadership, employees, and media. He stated that the digital parliament platform currently being launched is in the testing phase, so there may be some errors or incompleteness.
He said that the system will be made more user-friendly, faster, and easier based on suggestions received from users. He informed that arrangements have been made to make available the materials obtained after studying the constitution, laws, and publicly releasable subjects. He also clarified that the goal is to develop this system to be disability-friendly and accessible to all citizens.
