Only four MPs arrived, meeting on global terrorism canceled

New Delhi: A crucial meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, convened on Friday to discuss the global terrorism challenges, had to be canceled on Friday due to lack of quorum.

Only four MPs, including BJP’s PP Choudhary, panel chairman, RSP’s NK Premachandran and Rajya Sabha MP KJ Alphons, reached. The total strength of the panel is 28.

Senior officials from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) were present to brief the committee members on the agenda – “Combating Global Terrorism at the Regional and International Level”.

Others on the committee include Congress’s P Chidambaram, Kapil Sibal and Preneet Kaur, SAD’s Harsimrat Badal, TMC’s Abhishek Banerjee and Kalyan Banerjee, SP’s Jaya Bachchan and former CJI Ranjan Gogoi.
