New Delhi : The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy held discussions on energy generation and conservation on Tuesday, with members requesting detailed information on the performance of various states in these fields.
Committee Chairperson Shrirang Appa Chandu Barne, speaking after the meeting, stated that members sought data on the quantities of energy generated and conserved, along with the carbon emissions associated with energy production.
“A special point was raised in the meeting on energy conservation. Information was also sought about the amount of energy produced, its conservation, and the amount of carbon generated in the process. The members also asked for information about which states are ahead and which ones are lagging,” he said.
Barne noted that there has been increasing focus on energy production under the Modi government. When asked which states are leading in energy conservation efforts, he identified Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, adding that many other states are also making strong efforts in this direction.
The panel received briefings from representatives of the Ministry of Power and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) on the topic “Energy Conservation and Efficiency”.
Additionally, the committee considered a draft report on actions taken by the government in response to recommendations from the Twelfth Report (18th Lok Sabha) on Demands for Grants (2026-27) of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
Earlier in July, Barne mentioned that the committee reviewed the country’s wind energy expansion plans and was briefed on the government’s target to generate 100 gigawatts of electricity from wind energy by 2030.
Following the meeting, Barne said that detailed presentations were made regarding progress in the solar and wind energy sectors and policy measures intended to increase renewable energy generation.
