Parliamentary panel meets J’khand CM, discusses HEC revival plans

Ranchi :  A parliamentary panel on Friday met Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and discussed plans for the possible revival of Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC) Limited, a statement said.

The six-member Parliamentary Standing Committee on Industries is headed by Rajya Sabha MP Tiruchi Siva.

“During the meeting, the chief minister and the members of the parliamentary panel held a detailed discussion regarding the current status of HEC in Ranchi and future action plans concerning its revival,” the statement said.

Siva, accompanied by sub-committee convener for HEC’s revival Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, and members Sulata Deo, Mallu Ravi, Hasmukhbhai Somabhai Patel and Chandan Chauhan, arrived in Jharkhand on Thursday.

The parliamentary team visited Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC) Limited in Ranchi on Thursday, and assessed its current status and studied the prospects of reviving the state-run company.

The members also paid a courtesy call on Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar at Lok Bhawan on Thursday.

“HEC was established in 1958. It had 20,000 employees, 7,000 acres of land and some of the largest machinery in the country. In its last 68 years of operations, except for three years, it was continuously making losses,” Reddy said in a social media post.

“As a six-member sub-committee visiting HEC, (we are) to evaluate how we can revive the company and make it profitable. The massive machinery, though old, was impressive,” he said.
