MLAs described the kits presented to them—containing a copy of the Constitution, a compendium of Acts from 1952 till date, a directory of former and current members, and material provided by the Tourism and Cooperative Departments—as excellent gifts.
Jaipur : On the occasion of the completion of 75 years of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, the inaugural event of the Amrit Mahotsav, titled “Legislative Pride Journey – Historic Reunion of Former and Present MLAs,” was held on Wednesday in the distinguished presence of Vice President Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan and Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla. Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Speaker Shri Vasudev Devnani has been receiving widespread appreciation, congratulations, and best wishes not only from across the state but from all over the country for this initiative.
The innovative event, aimed at strengthening democratic traditions and elevating parliamentary dignity, has been described by public representatives from all political parties as a unique and historic initiative.
For the successful organization of the event, Leader of the Opposition Shri Tikaram Jully, former Assembly Speaker Dr. C. P. Joshi, MLA Shri Harimohan Sharma, President of the Former MLAs’ Association Shri Jeetmal Chaudhary, BJP Chief Whip Shri Jogeshwar Garg, Congress Chief Whip Shri Rafiq Khan, along with several former and current MLAs, conveyed their heartfelt congratulations through messages and personal interactions.
Former MLA Pandit Shri Ram Kishan, who is over 100 years old, personally spoke with Assembly Speaker Shri Devnani, extended his heartfelt congratulations, and urged that such events be organized regularly. Dignitaries holding constitutional offices, present and former public representatives, social organizations, intellectuals, and citizens also described the initiative as a visionary step toward strengthening democracy.
Congratulatory messages noted that under Shri Devnani’s leadership, the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly has introduced several innovative initiatives in recent years. The Legislative Pride Journey and the reunion of former and current MLAs are an important addition to that series, effectively carrying the Assembly’s glorious legacy to the younger generation.
The Assembly’s 200 sitting MLAs and 495 former MLAs were presented with trolley bag kits containing a copy of the Constitution of India, a compilation of Acts enacted since 1952, a directory of former and current members, and materials provided by the Tourism and Cooperative Departments, including carry bags, literature, scarves, and other items. The legislators described these as thoughtful and excellent gifts.
Participants termed the gathering unprecedented and expressed the hope that the Assembly Speaker would continue organizing such events, providing opportunities for legislators from different generations to come together and strengthen personal bonds. Former and present MLAs from various political parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to democratic values, parliamentary traditions, and public service. Many noted that after several years, numerous former legislators had the opportunity to meet each other again, rekindle old parliamentary memories, and allow the younger generation of representatives to benefit from the experience and wisdom of senior legislators.
Several former and current MLAs observed that this was the first event of its kind in the history of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly. They said it had risen above political differences and reinforced the spirit of one democratic family. Sitting MLAs also described it as an important opportunity to better understand parliamentary traditions and draw inspiration from the experiences of senior public representatives.
The public representatives expressed confidence that such initiatives would further strengthen public trust in democratic institutions and play a significant role in preserving parliamentary decorum and democratic values.
