The joint standing bureaus of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate approved the establishment of the Parliamentary Prayer Group for the 2024-2028 parliamentary term.
The joint standing bureaus approved the request to establish the Prayer Group on Thursday evening, following a proposal submitted by the senators and MPs who will form its leadership.
‘The Prayer Group was first established in the Romanian Parliament in 1992, bringing together parliamentarians from all political parties and different religious denominations for weekly prayer meetings and discussions on current issues relating to the protection of sound principles, acceptance, mutual understanding and respect, grounded in the moral values present in society. The group is also in charge of organising the annual Romanian Parliament Prayer Breakfast, an event that brings together leaders from all sectors of society, from Romania and abroad, helping to improve the image of Parliament and creating opportunities for parliamentary diplomacy through interactions with officials from other countries,’ the request reads.
According to the document, the senators and MPs attending the meeting to establish the Prayer Group decided to resume weekly meetings and continue the group’s activities in line with its established objectives.
‘In light of the above, we propose that Parliament’s leadership approve the re-establishment of the Prayer Group for the 2024-2028 parliamentary term. Throughout the year, group members will attend various national events and international conferences at the invitation of similar groups in other countries, with a view to effectively representing Romania’s national interests,’ the signatories said.
The group’s leadership comprises co-presidents Adrian Cozma and Titus Corlatean, vice-presidents Robert Cazanciuc, Robert Sighiartau, Bogdan Rodeanu, Odon Szabo and Ramona Bruynseels, and secretaries Bogdan Ciuca, Andrei Emil Dirlau and Daniel Gheorghe.
