New Delhi, 9 August : The Second Session of the Eighteenth Lok Sabha, which commenced on 22 July, 2024, concluded today.
Delivering valedictory address on conclusion of the second Session of the Eighteenth Lok Sabha, Shri Birla informed that 15 sittings were held during the Session which lasted for around 115 hours.
The Productivity of the House was during the Session was 136 percent, informed Shri Birla.
Shri Birla also informed that the Finance Minister presented Union Budget 2024-2025 on the floor of the House on 23 July, 2024. General Discussion on the Union Budget 2024-25 lasted for 27 hours 19 minutes and 181 Members participated in the discussion. Finance Minister replied to the discussion on 30 July, 2024, informed Shri Birla.
He further informed that Demands for Grants of selected Ministries / Departments were discussed in the House from 30 July, 2024 to 5 August, 2024 and subsequently the Demands for Grants were passed by the House. Appropriation Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on 5 August, 2024, informed Shri Birla.
Shri Birla further informed that, 12 Government Bills were introduced and 04 Bills were passed, during the session. The bills which were passed are as follows:
(i) The Finance Bill, 2024;
(ii) The Appropriation Bill, 2024;
(iii) The Jammu and Kashmir Appropriation Bill, 2024; and
(iv) The Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak, 2024.
Shri Birla informed that 86 starred questions were answered orally during the Session. A total of 400 matters of urgent public importance were raised by the Members during the Zero Hour and a total of 358 matters were taken up under Rule 377.
Shri Birla informed that during the Session, 25 Statements were made under Direction 73A and a total number of 30 Statements including two Statements given by the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs in connection with parliamentary business and three suo moto Statements by Ministers were given. As many as, 1345 papers were laid on the Table of the House, informed Shri Birla.
Shri Birla informed that on 22 July, 2024, a discussion on India’s preparedness for upcoming Olympic Games was held under Rule 193. Similarly, on 31 July, 2024, a Calling Attention Motion was discussed under Rule 197 regarding loss of lives and property due to landslides and floods in various parts of the country.
As regards Private Members’ Business, Shri Birla informed that 65 Private Members Bills were introduced during the Session. Private Member’s Resolution moved by Shri Shri Shafi Parambil, MP, regarding appropriate measure to regulate airfare in the country was discussed in the House on 26 July, 2024, however, the discussion remained inconclusive.
Lok Sabha welcomed IPU President and Speaker of the National Assembly of Tanzania, H.E. Ms. Tulia Ackson on 1 August, 2024, informed Shri Birla.
