New Delhi : The INDIA bloc is set to continue its protest against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar on Friday, with Opposition MPs planning to march towards the Rashtrapati Bhavan, sources told Times Now.

According to sources, the Opposition parties have agreed to the condition of sending a 10-member delegation for a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu. The INDIA bloc is, however, still awaiting a response from the President on the proposed meeting.

Despite the proposed delegation, all INDIA bloc MPs are expected to participate in the protest march towards the Rashtrapati Bhavan tomorrow, sources said.

The names of several prominent Opposition leaders have been included in the proposed delegation, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, among others.

The INDIA bloc leaders have stepped up its agitation demanding accountability from the Election Commission and the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar. The latest decision comes a day after opposition MPs continued their protest in Delhi, with INDIA bloc leaders alleging that they were being prevented from staging their demonstration at Jantar Mantar.

The INDIA bloc is expected to press its demands during the proposed meeting with the President, while simultaneously continuing its protest on Friday.

CEC Gyanesh Kumar Faces Heat:

The protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar come amid criticism of the Election Commission over the SIR of electoral rolls. The controversy escalated after a media report claimed that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had recorded objections on at least 14 occasions over 10 months to decisions and orders, some of which they said were issued without their knowledge.

The Election Commission has, however, said that the three-member poll panel took all decisions, including those concerning the SIR, unanimously.
