Students don mantle of MPs at Young Indians Parliament 2026 in Tiruppur

Tiruppur : Young Indians Parliament (YIP) 2026 programme organised by local chapter of Young Indians, CII, for the first time in Tiruppur recently witnessed 140 school students, in their role as Members of Parliament, debating on key national issues, including Artificial Intelligence, necessity of Financial Literacy in Schools, mental health support system in schools and colleges, and sports as career choice.

The students also deliberated on regulation of social media versus freedom of expression, technology infusion into agriculture, Indian Defence Forces’ vision 2047, and combating plastic use.

District Collector Manish Naraware, in his inaugural address, said the event was an opportunity for the younger generation to assimilate the processes of democracy, while respecting the opinions of others.

The programme instils leadership qualities, constitutional awareness, democratic responsibility, public speaking skills, teamwork, policy thinking, and responsible citizenship among the upcoming generation, he said.

The students, according to the organisers, had an immersive experience of the working of Indian Parliament first-hand, with the intent of making discussions meaningful and arriving at solutions for the benefit of people.

As future entrepreneurs, scientists, judges and people’s representatives, the experience will help students develop their future leadership skills, the organisers said.

The two-day event encompassed Question Hour, Bill Debate, committee deliberations, debates and voting. At the valedictory session, the Collector honoured the meritorious performers with awards including the Best Parliamentarian Award, the Best Speaker Award, Leadership Excellence Award, Best Member – Ruling Party Award, Best Member -Opposition Award, Best Debate Award, and Social Impact Award, in the presence of Tiruppur North Constituency MLA V. Sathyabama, Young Indians Tiruppur Chapter president Vimalraj and vice-president Ashwin.

A. Punitha Anthoniyammal, Chief Educational Officer, and secretary of Penn Collective Shivanjali Kamble, also took part.

Shortlisted students from the regional round will participate in two-day simulations emphasising procedure, accountability, policy depth, and committee deliberations. The final round will take place in New Delhi, where the participants will interact with senior policymakers, Members of Parliament, and national leaders to gain real-world exposure to governance and public leadership.
